still with the week in review: dec 28- jan 3

the last week of 2009 went fast and furious. not a whole lot other than some thrifting with roomie, discovering a new nifty thai place (vegan even) and a wee bit of crafting and visiting with stacey and the gang where we talked, talked, talked and exchanged "stockings". too. much. the first of the new year was spent wandering our local cemetery for our traditional viewing of the holiday decorations. it fascinates me the vast green, headstones and then christmas trees, tinsel, santas and such. i at once feel sad for those who feel compelled to decorate the graves of their lost ones and then sad again for those graves that have no decor. such a contradiction going on in my head. either way, the day was gorgeous, the sky blue and the holiday decorations were quite pretty in their own tragic way. after the cemetery, we headed out to alhambra for banh mi from our favorite sandwich shop which we ennjoyed in the park on our blanket complete with an itty bitty nap and a fosselman's run for chocolate dipped strawberry and lychee ice cream. soooo good!saturday we took over kitty duties for some friends and made sure the oldster got her pill, water and food. after that, we hunted down a local pho place that managed to satisfy our lurve for the soup. not perfect, not great but completely enjoyable even if it was a tad too salty and the noodles overcooked. maybe the next bowl will be better as they smatter their broth with a wonderfully scented smattering of star anise and clove. it smelled sooo good! we will be going back.and finally, sunday. we got out the bikes (well, the mister did) and then we cruised on down to our local subway stop, hopped on to downtown and then transfered to the gold line and rode out to pasadena. at our stop, we cruised the bikes over to the pcc swapmeet and took a quick look around. i had hoped to take some pictures but the folks were camera glarey and there really wasn't much worth photographing unless you count those glarey folks. as we wandered around the stuff, crap and junk we heard the doon, doon, doon of a stand-up bass and went to investigate. after enjoying the short concert performed by the phil friendly trio we unlocked the bikes and headed out for the best darn cheeseburgers and a slice of pie. and then, before our bellies could recognize that they needed a nap, we pedaled a few short blocks over to visit with my brother who showed us his latest slide guitar (sooo neat and pretty), his most recent fishing lures and decoys, and their new kitty who is teeny tiny and too too cute.fun!rather than bike up the hills we just came down, we headed south through south pasadena where we caught the gold line at the mission station and soon, we were on our way back home. once home we puttered about the casa working on the blog, making dinner, picking tangerines, pestering the witch-baby, talking about the trip, and watching a couple of netflix discs (loony tunes and the ramen girl).

hope your first of the new year was dandy and may you have many many more of them dandy days. i need to finish the january bunting, make a grocery list for this no sugar thing i'm attempting, get decent so i can head out and pick up quarters, library books and lita who is arriving at the airport from her quick trip to visit her sister. happy january everyone!

the week in review: nov 30-dec 6

i cannot lie. i spent way too much time, mug o tea in hand, gazing out the window watching all the birdies in the garden. you put in one little birdbath and you becomes the hottest garden on the block. i am enchanted by their antics and feel that if it were not for mr. a-go-go and me only owning one cat i would be a finger snap away from being an old cat lady. maybe if i keep myself in stripey goodness and such i won't be so bad. besides, who woulda thunk there could be so many nifty birds in Hollywood? anyway, i watched a lot of birds this week. i baked a little, drank enormous amounts of tea and managed to write up to tutorials. there was a leetle bit of cleaning and a couple of visits to the doctor, two flu shots, one camera up the nose (NOT FUN) and a zillion pills later i'm still here kicking around. we even plotted out a tamale walk but ended up slurping up giant bowls of pho instead. a pretty good week, if i do say so myself. check out the pic on my flickr page for a wee bit more info if ya like. happy december!

i'm off to walk the neighborhood in search of something to stand on. it's pouring out, no driving for me!

the week in review: sep 28-oct 4

last week there was...baking, reading, scheming, writing, project making and netflixing in between. the weekend consisted of hiking, gardening, errands, costume making, and more reading. we also trekked on out to littlerock to hit up charlie brown farms (which is just as chaotic as its website) for some bbq that managed to keep us full until lunch the next day. the next day we trekked out for costume accoutrements and curry at india sweets ans spices (after all that bbq, we filled our meat quota for the week and needed some vegetarian fare.) the weather has FINALLY turned and it is almost cool enough for long sleeves. i am sooo excited. this week i need need need to finish up a major deadline, dive back into the purge and photograph projects and etsy goodies.

today i am taking my big brother thrift shopping and am gidddy, i tell ya. i love that guy! tonight we celebrate the lucy-goose's ninth birthday. nine? when did that happen? laterthis week, if all goes well, there may be a movie day with stacey and there will be a trek up to visit with family for the weekend. i am sooo happy jeppy deighted that it is october!

the week in review: september 7-13

last week was still hot and fan worthy and still a bit too smoky for any outdoor activity so i remained inside attempting to get back to the great purge. to distract myself, i made up the september bed and peeked into boxes that hadn't been peeked into in a long, long, while. the mister & i did get to visit with friends and the fall garden has been planted, all in all, a pretty productive week. click here for more detail...

happy september!

the week in review: aug 24-30

it's been a hot hot week. it's now wildfire season here in california and there has been a giant fire mightily burning up our angeles national forest. the family a-go-go home may or may not be still standing. thankfully and luckily, the mama and sister a-go-go have been long out of the house and the mr.a-go-go has almost finished cleaning it out. as it stands there are still two pieces of his artwork in the house. it would be a shame to lose them but we're grateful that everyone is out and safe. it hasn't burned there in more than thirty years and is long overdue. i remember the last fire. i didn't know mr. a-go-go then but we sort of grew up in the same neighborhood and that last fire was a doozy, hard to forget. so with the heat and the smoke it had been a quiet week until i received word that my gal lalu was in town so we had to hit up target, in & out & daglas. they don't have these nifty places on maui where she lives. then after all that shopping, (with a pit stop to hollywood blvd for her guy who has never been) we met up with a big chunk of her family to ride the coasters at magic mountain. not the best thing to do with the fires all around us but we seemed to be protected where we were and i didn't feel too ragged after it all. fun times!

yesterday was even hotter, so we a-go-gos hit up our favorite banh mi shop, grabbed 2 sandwiches and hit the sweetly air conditioned yet somewhat bedraggled movie theater for a viewing of ponyo which was great until the end and then it just got kinda cheesy, perfect for kidlets though. after the flick, we hit fosselmans for ice cream (me: chocolate dipped strawberry, he: horchata) and then dragged our hot sticky selves back home to an even hotter icky casa where we fell onto the couch in front of the fan and watched too many netflix dvds back to back.

**also during the week, the witch-baby got her claw stuck in such a way in the door jam that it looked like her leg was broken. she was howling away and i was freaking out. neither mr. a-go-go or i could figure out how to get her unstuck. it looked like we were going to have to call an emergency vet to sedate her to get her loose. after much freaking out, crazy wailing and a bit too much biting, the witch-baby suddenly popped free with not a limp in sight. phew! that was scary!

the week in review: aug 17-23

phew! what a week. a whirlwind of errands and to-dos and daily goings-on. there was an art-adventure, muffin baking, ice cream eating, family visiting, beach picnicking, uke playing, thrifting, patchworking and jumping. i'm still tired thinking about it all. this week is will be spent attempting to get the casa back in a sort of order so that i can get the furniture all switched around and those boxes unpacked. i have oodles of commitments that i am super behind on and the mister just may leave if another pile of fabric falls on his head. let's hope this is a week of doing and not planning...i'll keep my fingers crossed just in case.

the week in review: june 22-28

this past week was more whirlwindy than usual. it was jam packed so much that i am beat, i tell ya. i am sooo completely tired. phew! there was housecleaning and people seeing and home cooking and cooking lessons and family adventuring. we hit five museums in two days! if you are a kid in los angeles, you can count yourself lucky with all the cool free (and cheap) things out here to do.

i had four days of allergy shots with needle-poke pics to prove it, visited mr. a-go-go at work with a picnic lunch, built a tent in the garden for some fabulous kidlets to play in, though they chose to build pop-bead people on the bed instead and cooked up some super yummy delicious dinners in the teeny tiny kitchen. this week will be more cleaning, less needle poking and a visit up the coast to see family for the fourth and a birthday something or other for the mama-ago-go. happy almost july!

the week in review: june 8-14

most of the week was spent tearing apart the tiny casa. it's still all torn up and a big giant mess or at least as messy as this tiny place can get. we hit the road friday night to visit with the family-go-go and had a most delightful weekend. the only not so delightful bit was the drive home that took us more than five hours. normally it is a three hour trip but because of all those graduates at all those universities we passed, driving took a long, long time. so there ya have it, the week in review...

hi-lights include purging four boxes of goodies to the Goodwill, finding odd old things i didn't know i had, seeing an actual beaver swimming in a pond, partaking of some amazing burgers under a blue sky filled with big puffy clouds, and eating way too much ice cream in honor of mr. a-go-go's birthday. click here for more info on the pics. this week will be less of the same. mostly cleaning and purging and all that jazz. i'm going to the allergist for my first round of pinpricks and needles and cuts and allergins. wish me luck.

other weeks in review players can be seen here and here.

the week in review: mar 30-apr 5

it was an upside down sort of week. i had great plans but then felt stuck in a big blob of amber. it was a pretty, dreamy stick but kept me from completing much of what should have been completed. there was school and coffee fun and cookie baking and the making of the bed. i jumped, more than once, got others to jump and partook of the magic that is scoops, two days in a row. the mister is slowly forgiving me for that. ice cream? without him? i am in sooo much trouble!

the garden is in beautiful bloom, the witch-baby is driving me batty with her pleas to go outside, the casa is as always a mess but this mess seems prettier than others hence the amber stick.

the weekend was full of plans without my guy except of course for our double feature of john boorman flicks brought to us by the prefix EX. there was jumping fun on ice cream friday. we have to go back to that wall and i need to hang out on ice cream friday more often! i took the roomie to marukai where her eyes spun out of control and we stayed out all day. and on sunday, i hit downtown l.a. with some nifty classmates to research a presentation we have to put together on the story of Manzanar. how lucky for us to find a wonderful exhibit at the museum and tents upon tents upon colorful goodie-filled tents set up for the cherry blossom festival.

on my way back to union station, i stopped to take pics of a giant and nifty sculpture where i was then stopped by a large security guard who informed me that a permit was needed to photograph the premises. what is our city coming to? there were no signs posted so i shrugged and said thank-you and moseyed on back to the train station where the heat got to me and the mister picked me up.

this week will be packed with visits and school work and then the mister and i hit the road for an overnight in carrizo plain to tour the petroglyphs, take pics of the wildflowers and eat s'mores with the goosey girl and family.

happy april!

oh wait! did you know that there is a flickr group for the week in review? i'm not the only one who is nutty enough to do this. here are a few more, check it out and join us!
