we went to a shindig

mr. a-go-go and i do not know many people up here. being ever-so-slightly introverted, childless, old, and dorky makes it a leetle bit difficult but we make do. it helps that we enjoy each others company. that said, the few people i have met and and utterly adore just happen to be folks who connected with me through my blog and flickr. flickr! remember flickr? one of my local flickr friends got hitched so mr. a-go-go and i did our best to clean up and be social. it was a lot of fun and the happy couple throw a mean shindig...just saying. yay for parties! i did not bring my rebel but i did bring an old iphone that i use purely as a mini jukebox and a camera to capture some of the happy little details.

can you tell there was a little bit of scrumdilly involved? it was super windy but still, everything was simple and pretty.

i may have mixed up a number of arnold palmers. i used to think they were over-the-top smarmy lemonades but now that i am an old fogey i quite like them. p.s. everyone knows that drinks served from enormous mason jars are better anyway.

we were seated at the flickr table and met some super cool people who gamely chatted with us about our fondness of L.A. eats. made us miss L.A.

it was super windy and the weather waffled between shivering and warm. cold drinks were downed and then i may have parked myself at the coffee table when the coffee came out. our hosts chose cupcakes for the cake portion of the ceremony and good lord i need to learn how to make a salted chocolate caramel cupcake, yum!
so we did it. us dorky a-go-gos stepped out of our comfort zones to gussy up as best we could to honor a favorite person's big day and we survived. we even had fun and yes, we danced a little too!

i could have dance all night

The other night we swing-danced to Bow Wow Wow as the mister was prepping a dinner for the next day and I was gathering up materials for a new school week. The blinds on the front windows were still open and we could see our neighbor across the street work on his lawn. The sun hadn't quite set for the evening, the witch-baby was curled up on the sofa, and the dolly-cat was winding herself around and around the mama a-go-go's ankles.

My socks made my feet slip-slip-slip across the floor as the mister spun me around and around. For the first time possibly ever I could actually follow his lead. We were laughing and dizzy and breathless.

It was magnificent.

an almost making the bed post

Most of the vintage linens are still in boxes protecting various jars of doll heads and doodads. I'm not sure it would help too much anyway to unpack them as the new bed is an upgrade...we got a queen. So now, all my vintage fitted sheets are too small which is a good thing as now I have no excuse to NOT use them in crafty bits. Alls I gotta do is tear out that elastic and get to cutting and stitching.

And since I have far too much to unbox and have been on a (mostly) thrifting hiatus I can now thrift with the purpose of looking for queen sized fitted sheets and that darn expandable coat rack thingamabob my mamos used to use for her mugs. I have a perfect spot for one and now aim to find one at the thrifts. I've seen them oodles but now that I want one...you know how it goes.

Now that I have a thrifting purpose I STILL have to wait. Saturday, when mr. a-go-go and I began our journey out to our favorite thrift in a town about 35 miles away, poor old Sir Rodney sputtered and died. He just went kaput! Luckily we were still in town and not yet on the highway and since we've had so much phone fiasco with that wretched company known as AT&T, we've been carting around our three-year old and barely used Tracphone (albeit reluctantly) so were able to call a tow-truck. I admit, it was one of those moments where a cell phone was handy. Knowing that Sir Rodney is getting on in years and miles we suspected and hope, hope, hoped it was a case of a shredded timing belt and it turns out it was! Phew! mr. a-go-go took apart all sorts of parts in Rodney's front end to find evidence of an after-party belt fiasco. He has since ordered parts so now we have to wait a week or so before Rodney is up and running. I begin my new work-gig (!) in town this week and am happy to say I can probably easily bike it so we're good to go.

Still, it puts a slight damper on unpacking plans as we are in need of shelves and wood to build said shelves but we'll make do, we always do. We're still phone-less and internet-less and am very grateful the homestead a-go-go is less than a mile away (with internet & family) and we have bikes and good legs for pedaling.

**does anyone out there use broadband2go? we're looking into some sort of cell phone/internet wifi dealio that will be less than $60 a month. we're also looking into appletv or something similar as we really do not want cable, just a wee bit of regular network channels and the ability to watch Netflix on our computer screen. i'm not even sure all i wrote is possible, don't fergit, i AM a techno-DUNCE!

missing out on the wildflowers

we went on a mini camping trip this Easter weekend to Carrizo Plain. Carrizo Plain is famous for it's wildflowers and wouldn't you know, we missed them by a week or so. sure, there were a few here and there with small patches of happy colors to photograph but the promise of fields and fields of flowers was gone.instead, we trekked out to a spiritual rock to look at pictographs, ate lunch on a plain, hunted for owl's clover, mined a hillside for pretty rocks and set up camp.we brought the april bed to the auto-a-go-go, cooked hot dogs on the fire, noodled around with the ukes and discovered the joys of s'mores made from matzoh.after a dark, dark star filled sky lulled us to sleep, we awoke to hot granola, matzoh pancakes and the packing up of camp. on the drive home, we did of course, jump in a field, snap pictures of cows, oak trees, and wildflowers and stop off for a visit with the family-a-go-go.next trip, we're hoping to go for a bit longer than an overnight. anyone want to come watch the garden and the witch-baby for us?
