Today we had egg puffs for breakfast with strawberries that were left on the porch by a dear friend. I wrapped up some masks to send out to friends near and far, and the mister and I headed out for a walk in our masks. We were the only ones. I think if we continue to wear them, we can normalize it but most likely we will not. Mostly we get smirks. Fun times.

teacher life
I put together a curriculum bag for the next three weeks. I work at a private school and we're all pretty local to each other. Popped the bags on the porch and let the parents know they could come get them for a contactless but visible (for the kiddos) pick up. Lookie me, I'm a teacher with curbside pick-up! One parent brought me coffee, another brought me a scone, while another brought me a self-portrait and flowers from her kiddo. Man, I love these families! I miss my classroom kiddos so freaking much there are tears (mine). I've said it before, and I'll say it again, what preschoolers need cannot be taught digitally and I am so sad for this. In the end, I know they will be fine, children are so flexible really, look at me, I turned out fairly ok. I spend a lot of time on the phone with my parents, calling, emailing, and texting to help through various questions and concerns. I've done video chats with my kiddos, and sent along quick videos of me singing songs on requests. I've spent hours reassuring parents that they are supported and they will be fine and their children are good, and maybe set up a routine at home that mirrors school, and who cares if you make the zoom call, go outside instead, blow bubbles, have dance parties, sleep in, read more books, and here's a link of me reading books. We can do this.
Have I told you how much I miss them?

dear diary: muffins and masks
It looks like we'll be needing to wear masks soon. Ideally you wear a mask if you have been sick so as not to spread your ick to others. If sick people are not wearing masks it really doesn't help too much to wear a fabric mask. I have a lot of friends who have been stitching up for their local hospitals and they have been super productive. I guess fabric hoarding is good for something? Most of my pieces are fairly small, but the mister has been dutifully pleating and stitching up masks for the family. We don't have much elastic, but we do have some t-shirts I am going to cut up for the ties.
The mister found tiny bags of flour and so I made some brown sugar oat muffins. They are pretty good. We'll see how they taste tomorrow. Recipe from Tornadough Alli (which took me forever to read write. Torn-ug-dough? Huh?) They were quick and easy to come together and I used all purpose flour as we did not have any whole wheat. Does anybody have any whole wheat flour? Oof. Crazy times.
