la la la

Do you ever have conversations or great blog posts going through your mind that are so detailed you could have sworn you actually did them? In real life?

I could have sworn I had been blogging about our great pandemic year, but it seems I have...not. One year since my last post and I have to confess that my neighborhood walks have slowed down big time. BIG TIME. I need to get back on the walking horse, but yeesh. My brain is mush, and I have so many excuses that all seem valid. I think I need a time out. Ima gonna put myself in the corner and have a good talking to.

I do have drafts of posts I started but never published. Maybe that's why I thought I did them? Who knows. I don't even know if anyone out there actually reads blogs anymore, but I'm still gonna tip type away now and then if not for you, then for myself...for prosperity's sake. Ha!

So, what's going on in a-go-go land? Not a lot of big. new, or exciting news other than we're ok. We are for the most part well, covid-free, and vaccinated! I just picked up some fall fabric to make a new round of masks, because...variants and breakthrough infections are not on my wishlist. And yes, we know it makes more sense for a sick person to wear the mask to prevent spread, but we're still going to don them when we head into stores, etc. It's been nice meeting up with friends for chow and walks, and treats. I hope we can keep this momentum.

Stay safe, and healthy friends! Be kind to yourself, and others. Peace, love, and coffee dates!

june 20

Today, I woke up with stupid hair. It is not uncommon for me to awake to stupid hair, but today's stupid hair made me grateful I had nowhere I needed to be. No amount of brushing would make it look less than stupid. So, I dampened the brush and now I look like I have a head of stringy, wet stupid hair. It's like I'm a teenager all over again, only I'm pretty sure I would get a whole lotta "bless her heart" looks from strangers.  It's THAT stupid.

Yesterday I had a party with the dentist. An old crown moved out making the snazzy digs at the back of my mouth available for something new. Due to my tiny crooked jaw, something as easy as jazzing up new digs becomes a bit of a blunder. Even cleanings are uncomfortable for me. So, armed with a dazzling array of pills, I took a deep breath and on my very first day of official summer vacation, I had an old crown removed and my bite adjusted. All of this was done while I was a teeny bit doped up with all those dazzling pills. On the plus side, I was less doped up than usual so I could listen to my ancient iphone shuffle through Neko Case, Elizabeth Cotton, Pokey LaFarge, and various preschool related tunes, but I could also feel the discomfort enough that my anxiety shot up and my blood pressure was just kooky. After it was all over, I was escorted down the hall to the waiting arms of mr. a-go-go. I don't remember much except that I got a strawberry milkshake and then fell asleep for five hours.

Which leads me to today, I'm still a smidge groggy but not so groggy I did not notice my stupid hair. My jaw is still uncomfortable and my gums are really pissed off at me, but I breakfasted on a wee bowl of yogurt with a smattering of blueberries and managed to brew up a really awful pot of coffee. The aging witch-baby is sleeping next me, and I can here the neighborhood kites do their best imitations of pterodactyls they can muster. So while the witch-baby holds me captive on the sofa, I will endeavor to finish reading the two library books I have had since April, finish the really awful coffee I brewed, and do my best to get my neck untweaked so that the rest of summer my stupid hair will be a smidge less than stupid.

on this morning

I woke up this morning to the song of frogs, the harsh screech-screech-screech of one very put out bluejay, the long whistles of goldfinches, and the less harsh but equally put out symphony of barks from my neighbor's dogs.

I woke up to the kind of morning where the light is just right and the breeze cool enough to warrant another burrow under the covers. It was 8am and I wanted to sleep more but the mister was already up the peak that we can see from our backyard, the mama a-go-go was scraping marmalade across her toast, and the witch-baby was howling underfoot for more food, or more lap, or more something...

I woke up easy to the frog song and lazed in bed, thinking of what to wear for a brunch date almost an hour away with my oldest friend who knew me when. I really should get up get dressed...drink some water, and wash the racoon under my eyes.

I woke up hungry and thirsty and maybe even slightly wheezy as is the norm for me. As I contemplated leaving the warm covers, the mister comes whistling in from his hike. My eyes snap open "I'm awake! I've been awake!" I always feel a little less good in the mornings in this family of early-risers. I roll out of bed and get dressed for the day.

I woke up this morning thinking it was just like any other day. I dressed quickly, gulped a glass of water and had a slice of peanut butter pie for my first breakfast. I checked to make sure I wrote the directions to the brunch place and posted a photo to Instagram, read a Facebook message from another dear friend and sighed about, beginning my day, and then it hit me...

I woke up this morning thinking "it's my mother's birthday" and I missed her as deeply as I did on the day she died. With a gasp and a tear, I thought, oh how she would have liked to wake up to the song of frogs, the harsh screech-screech-screech of one very put out bluejay, the long whistles of goldfinches, and the less harsh but equally put out symphony of barks from my neighbor's dogs. She would have liked to see the peak, especially in it's spring green glory, she would have loved the whistling mister, and she would totally be down for peanut butter pie for breakfast. Happy birthday, Mamos.

wreck this cake

i'm sooooo busy my head is going to spin itself to the land of the lost. though, to be honest, i am more busy thinking about all the things that need to be finished this week, too many things. i am a manic jek. happily enough, i was distracted from the busy by a visit with the mama and superstar bean but now i must get back to all that busy i so mysteriously speak of, mostly thinking of those darn papers that need to get written and working on a couple of presentations for this weekend. of course i had time in the middle of this very real busy to bake a cake for a flickr friend.

and then of course, in the tradition that is flickr collaborations and inspired by her wreck this journal project, i baked a cake, decorated it and then wrecked it...happy tuesday! i must run off to the market for milk and toothpaste, tomorrow will truly be spent in school mode so don't call me unless of course you are in the neighborhood and have coffee on you or smiles and hugs, those are nice as well.
