crocus & bumpass potting shelf

The jonquils, daffodils, and crocus have come up pretty early this year. They add such a lovely pop of color to the garden. With all the rain we have been having, everything is super saturated and lush,  but mostly green, not a lot of color, so these beauties are a welcome bit of sunshine.

The a-go-gos are not grill people, sure, we love a bbq but we just don't do the bbqs. This was the sister a-go-g's old grill and we tried offering it up for free on both Craigslist, and the local Buy Nothing group with no takers. I guess grillers tend to want their grills to look pretty? There are no holes and the inside totally works. Oh well, their loss is my new potting shelf. We store the potting spoil and tools inside, and use the grill shelf to the left as a potting bench. Works for me, and the spiders LOVE it!

sunflower garden

Have I told you already how the sunflowers have gone bonkers in the garden a-go-go 2.0? Seriously bonkers. The bees, all the bees, are loving them. Bumble, honey, and native bees are constantly buzz, buzz, buzzing about. It is awesome. Also, the linnets and goldfinches have been enjoying sunflower salad since before the flowers showed their faces. They sit, chirp, and peck, peck, peck at the green leaves. They appear so happy. And then there is this guy...the dreaded cucumber beetle, chomp, chomp, chomping away at whatever it can get it's little mouth on. Better the sunflowers than the lettuce I say. All in all there are three very tall stalks with a ridiculous number of blooms. The very first stalk to bloom has already gone past while the second two continue to show new blooms daily. The stalks are crazy thick, and the leaves...oh the leaves are enormous! Here are some more pics...

this is how i spend my downtime

up with the morning moon
and the morning hummingbirds
and the thirsty linnets
and the sneaky jays
there is a hummingbird turf war in the garden
spying on our new visitors
spotting the one gold crown
breathing to the beat of the woodpecker
smiling at the bathing birdies
greeting the sun with returning friends
