The Week in Rview: October 27-November 31

I think this was the busiest week yet what with all Felt Club prep work and Portland road trip planning. I've got two more days to finish EVERYTHING! Yikes! Gotta get back to crafting. Today is a school day so I haven't got much time.

I wish you all a safe and kicky Halloween! I wish I had more to offer wordwise but my hand is cramping up from scissoring through oodles of fabric and cardstock and the belly is a-rumbling for something to eat so once the mister arrives home we will pop on our clown noses and take a walk in the neighborhood. Mayhaps we will feast on some Indian food or Italian or oh wait, Thai...hmmm...there's a free "drive-in" movie going on at the end of our street. That could be fun....Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Eve!

I spent most of the day waiting for FedEx to arrive. I was afraid to use the sewing machine because that is how I missed them on Tuesday. I couldn't here the buzz, buzz, buzz of the buzzer. Drats! Instead, I parked myself on the couch and watched some Season 1 of Pushing Daisies, gosh but I lurve that show! I didn't just simply loaf though, I cut out felt circles for a new batch of go-go gloves. I also stitched some on and added buttons to needlebooks. Oh crud, I just realized I didn't eat any lunch. I did however drink oodles of water...I also, baked some cupcakes. It is a holiday you know and what holiday wouldn't be complete without cupcakes? Oh, and a birthday shout out to my pal SoMany. Hippo Birdies Two Ewes!Now, what to make for dinner. I think I will make some chili. I opened up a can of kidney beans yesterday thinking they were black beans so now I need to use these kidney beans. Dinnertime! Happy Almost Halloween!

a day well spent...

Los Angeles isn't known for it's public transit system, but if you live in the right place, adventure lay just a hop, skip and a jump away. I live in a nifty neighborhood that is a couple of blocks from the subway station.

The Los Angeles subway doesn't go too far but it does go downtown to Union Station. Union Station is right across the street from Olvera Street.Olvera Street is a perfect day trip for some photo ops and eye candy "shopping" with friends. Gotta love a day where you can hang out with friends, take candy colored photos, eat super duper dips from Philippe's without having to get in the car to do it. I spent $2.50 on fare, about $6 on a dip sandwich & lemonade and then splurged $4 on an iced latte at union Station where we hob knobbed in the beautiful main hall. I got home around 2pm and am getting ready to do more crafting.They hadn't set up for Dia de los muertos yet but still there was color. I love the juxtaposition of the lovely embroidered blouses with the freaky marionettes and the campy lucha libre masks. Everything is so colorful at Olvera Street. Sadly though, there are more than a few stalls that are empty and too many of the vendors yell at you when you take pictures of their merchandise. Makes me not want to visit. I might not have spent any money today but I do go there when I know exactly what I want to gift someone with.Did you know Philippe's has a second story? I never noticed..shows you how much I pay attention. There is an enticing staircase that runs along a brick wall covered in names and graffiti. We trolled up the steps to find an empty lovely space. Mini dining rooms with coat hooks on the walls and lovely light and always, those brick walls!
A day spent well spent!

This weekend was spent crafting away and getting ready for Felt Club! We're heading out to Portland ten days before the event and will be back the day before so I have to have everything ready by next Tuesday! Yikes! What was I thinking? There are oodles of people I would love to meet in Portland but am an awkward dork who doesn't want to intrude...if you're a Portland person who is interested in a meet up of sorts please let me know! We'll be there from Monday, November 10 to Thursday the 13 and then we're driving back down to L.A. so if yer along the way gimme a shout out as well. Anyone?

Did I tell you we hung out in the park on Friday and watched some nifty folk rehearse for Thrill the World? We didn't make it to the Hollywood performance but we did get to watch them practice and I think I know half the dance now as well. Here's to next year's event!

Time to get back to crafting, cleaning and perhaps some lunch.

The Week in Review: October 20-26

There was school, crafting, dental work, a picnic in the park, masked shenanigans on wheels and the crawling around in cars bit. This week will be more of the same though no dental work and no car crawling. We leave for Portland next week! Click here for more details on the picture.
