It's been raining a lot lately. A lot, a lot. It's been dark and gloomy and grey for days, and while I like the occasional dark and gloomy day, I suppose I do need more sun than my brain wants. I've been baking a lot, and reading a lot, and have spent a lot of time looking out the window watching all the wintering birds hang out in our yard, or on our porch. Today, I watched, along with the birds, this fluffy butt of a squirrel steal peanuts from the neighbor's bird feeder. The neighbors live across the street and this squirrel will grab a peanut then high-fluffy-tail it across the street to our yard where they dig through the now super-soft clay and mulch to hide their treasure. Once covered with earth, the squirrel, with a twitch of its tail, will bound back across the street in search of more bounty. Once the squirrel's back is turned (like immediately) a crow will hop down from it's spying perch. It will march purposefully to where the nut has been buried and it will dig it up and fly away, probably to hide it in it's own hidee hole, who knows. The best part is, this all happens like a cartoon loop. The moment the crow's feet lift off, the squirrel and its fluffy-butt bound across the street to bury another peanut. It's pretty funny and really cool to watch, which we did (three of us) for probably a lot longer than you would have.
