ha ha 266/365
I wish you all a safe and kicky Halloween! I wish I had more to offer wordwise but my hand is cramping up from scissoring through oodles of fabric and cardstock and the belly is a-rumbling for something to eat so once the mister arrives home we will pop on our clown noses and take a walk in the neighborhood. Mayhaps we will feast on some Indian food or Italian or oh wait, Thai...hmmm...there's a free "drive-in" movie going on at the end of our street. That could be fun....Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Eve!

I spent most of the day waiting for FedEx to arrive. I was afraid to use the sewing machine because that is how I missed them on Tuesday. I couldn't here the buzz, buzz, buzz of the buzzer. Drats! Instead, I parked myself on the couch and watched some Season 1 of Pushing Daisies, gosh but I lurve that show! I didn't just simply loaf though, I cut out felt circles for a new batch of go-go gloves. I also stitched some on and added buttons to needlebooks. Oh crud, I just realized I didn't eat any lunch. I did however drink oodles of water...I also, baked some cupcakes. It is a holiday you know and what holiday wouldn't be complete without cupcakes? Oh, and a birthday shout out to my pal SoMany. Hippo Birdies Two Ewes! Now, what to make for dinner. I think I will make some chili. I opened up a can of kidney beans yesterday thinking they were black beans so now I need to use these kidney beans. Dinnertime! Happy Almost Halloween!

a day well spent...

Los Angeles isn't known for it's public transit system, but if you live in the right place, adventure lay just a hop, skip and a jump away. I live in a nifty neighborhood that is a couple of blocks from the subway station.

The Los Angeles subway doesn't go too far but it does go downtown to Union Station. Union Station is right across the street from Olvera Street.Olvera Street is a perfect day trip for some photo ops and eye candy "shopping" with friends. Gotta love a day where you can hang out with friends, take candy colored photos, eat super duper dips from Philippe's without having to get in the car to do it. I spent $2.50 on fare, about $6 on a dip sandwich & lemonade and then splurged $4 on an iced latte at union Station where we hob knobbed in the beautiful main hall. I got home around 2pm and am getting ready to do more crafting. They hadn't set up for Dia de los muertos yet but still there was color. I love the juxtaposition of the lovely embroidered blouses with the freaky marionettes and the campy lucha libre masks. Everything is so colorful at Olvera Street. Sadly though, there are more than a few stalls that are empty and too many of the vendors yell at you when you take pictures of their merchandise. Makes me not want to visit. I might not have spent any money today but I do go there when I know exactly what I want to gift someone with.Did you know Philippe's has a second story? I never noticed..shows you how much I pay attention. There is an enticing staircase that runs along a brick wall covered in names and graffiti. We trolled up the steps to find an empty lovely space. Mini dining rooms with coat hooks on the walls and lovely light and always, those brick walls!
A day spent well spent!

dizzy with busy

This weekend was spent crafting away and getting ready for Felt Club! We're heading out to Portland ten days before the event and will be back the day before so I have to have everything ready by next Tuesday! Yikes! What was I thinking? There are oodles of people I would love to meet in Portland but am an awkward dork who doesn't want to intrude...if you're a Portland person who is interested in a meet up of sorts please let me know! We'll be there from Monday, November 10 to Thursday the 13 and then we're driving back down to L.A. so if yer along the way gimme a shout out as well. Anyone?

Did I tell you we hung out in the park on Friday and watched some nifty folk rehearse for Thrill the World? We didn't make it to the Hollywood performance but we did get to watch them practice and I think I know half the dance now as well. Here's to next year's event!

Time to get back to crafting, cleaning and perhaps some lunch.

The Week in Review: October 20-26

There was school, crafting, dental work, a picnic in the park, masked shenanigans on wheels and the crawling around in cars bit. This week will be more of the same though no dental work and no car crawling. We leave for Portland next week! Click here for more details on the picture.

**for some reason blogger is not formating the picture like it usually does so all you get is a small peep. click on the picture to see it larger or follow the link to my flickr page.

taggity tagged tagged tagged....

I have a confession though if you know me well this isn't news to you. I can be quite forgetful and flakey-like. I don't respond in a timely manner to many things. None of it is intentional. I promise you, I always intend to follow-through but then I forget or I have a full follow-through in my head and somehow think technology is so swell it can morph it onto my blog. That said I am attempting to respond to a few things today that may not be late or may be redundant at this point. Love me or hate me, this is how I dance. The pictures posted are just to reel you in to reading it all.Have you poked around, The Crafty Crow or Crafty Stylish lately? There have been some super wonderful shout outs to me and the blogs. Check it out:

**Nifty Ribbon Storage on Crafty Stylish
*scrumdilly-do gets a shout out on
**The Crafty Crow likes scrumdilly-do. here and here.

The market bags have been popping up all over the web, Check out these links, some in languages other than English and poke around the sites...

*.The Best of DIY
*one pretty thing

The most recent issue of Blanket Magazine is available for download. It is the travel issue and you can check out my article on how to make a traveling envelope book. And now for some tagging...the lovely Lyn of florspace has tagged me for a random goes:

1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog - some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blog.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

I hope I don't repeat myself...

1. I made my first purse/bag in junior high from a McDonalds cookieland box. I unfolded it flat and covered it with packing tape, refolded it and added ribbon straps.

2. I've never seen The Crying Game, Boys Don't Cry or Brokeback Mountain but I do know all the dialogue and lyrics to Grease 2, The Pirate Movie and Shock Treatment.

3. While I love baked good and lovely sweet things, I don't like a lot of jam on my peanut butter sandwiches. Mister a-go-go still cannot make me a sufficient sandwich in this area. Always too much jam. He knows this and we have an agreement. If I want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I need to make it myself.

4. I was disappointed in junior high when I found out that teenagers no longer dance like they did in the fifties. I never went to a school dance because of this.

5.Also, I was shy but weirdly enough I tried out for dance performance in high school I was voted best senior dancer and best choreographer for four semesters.

6. If it were up to me there would probably be at least four kinds of bread in the casa at any given time. I like specific bread for specific things. Wheat bread for sandwiches, sourdough for toast, soft white bread for cinnamon toast or grilled sandwiches...etc.

7. Two years ago I slipped and fell while hiking with the mister. A year after the fall I began having pain in my tail bone. I now have to get the darn thing x-rayed as it is painful to stand up after sitting. A car ride is the WORST! I shift al ot when I sit now and I suppose I look freakish.

Hmmmm who to tag? I would probably tag all of you who have laready been tagged or who have tagged me in the past.

*justine (because you like me!)

play if you will or want or feel a need to post away. Have a most loverly week my friends!

Sinuses be damned, I want cupcakes!

Just yesterday I read on Cupcakes Take the Cake that my favorite bakeshop was shutting down for the rest of the year. I had plans for coffee with the sherpa gal so we switched it up a wee bit.

We hit a favorite thrift store in the San Fernando Valley, then hit Leda's Bakeshop for samples galore, a nice chat with the nifty cupcake makers and probably more sweets than a gal with a sinus infection needs but hey, I'm playing the sick card and well, Leda's makes the best ginger scones ever!I'm not sure you would ever really want to go thrift shopping with me. I talk...a lot. I talk to you, I talk to myself, I offer fashion advice (unsolicited of course) to anyone around me. I drop stuff when I see something extra spiffy and I oooh and aahhh out loud. Sometimes I even clap and/or jump up and down. I've been known to try things on right there, in the middle of the aisle. One of my requirements for thrift shopping is to wear nifty shoes because sometimes you can't try stuff on so you have to hold up to your chest and then look down to see if it looks happy with your shoes. That is of course how I ended up with the wacky housedress. I also run a commentary on things that won't fit me and I make up outfits on the spot.

"Oooh, wear this with aqua colored tights and yellow shoes and put your hair in a pony tail!"

I also pick up vintage bits that I have NO need for but hold onto them because they are vintage and you know, only two dollars. I put the nifty fruity train curtains back but kept the gold accented chicken.. Don't even try to figure me out. I know I just wrote how we are trying to purge but it was a chicken. Do you even know how I feel about chickens? We did have a scary moment when we thought a wallet had been lost or stolen but it was just hiding and we were able to escape the thrift store (my total was just under $21.00!)Walking into Leda's is quite heavenly. It is a teeny-tiny shop and there are always oodles of samples and they offer a fantastic assortment of yummy vegan sweets. I even picked up a vegan brownie and STILL have some left. I got half a dozen of the itty bitty cupcakes and cradled them on my lap all the way home and then put them in the fridge to recover from the heat. It has been super duper HOT lately. At some point I remembered I had the cupcakes. How could I have forgotten? It was picture time and the light is changing and there are clouds and since I don't have a fancy camera or lightbox set up I made due with what I had and proceeded to take almost 100 photos. I know! Get a life, right? Anyway, the cupcakes are really pretty and still in the fridge waiting for Mr. a-go-go to return from work. Can you believe it? I share! That was my day, it was delightful even with this awful, evil migraine mimic-er. Dinner is done (rosemary, white bean & tomato stew), aspirin has been consumed and I'm (finally) watching The Core! I better hurry before the mister gets home!

Have a most stupendous weekend and please help me plan our road trip!

bidding, bidding, who's got the bidding?

Anyone in need of a vintage Quaker Oats Cookie Jar? The mister & I are saving for something and we're purging the a-go-go household...2 days left, it's under a buck right now and while I'm happy for the person who is scoring it, I can't help but be a wee bit unhappy for me...

Travel Plans & Quibling a-go-gos

(The above photo has nothing to do with anything, I just wanted you to look...)

The mister has discovered I ordered The Core from Netflix. Just now he discovered it and he won't let up on me.

"The Core? Why The Core? Why not Volcano or Towering Inferno? Goodness woman it's just bad, why would you want to see this again, You just saw this!"

"I saw it five years ago and I LIKE bad movies. I LIKE disaster flicks. Of course it is bad, that is why I want to see it again. Ow, my head hurts, I don't feel well..." (clutching my head and moaning for effectiveness).

"Magma? Magma? Hello, what about Volcano?"

"I've seen Volcano."

"I haven't!"

and on and on and now he is finally quiet because he is opening the phone bill and yes my head still hurts. Nothing like two sick a-go-gos trapped in the tiny casa.

Anywhoo...the mister and I are road tripping ourselves up to Portland, Oregon. We're taking the 101, does anyone have any input on where to stop? Would anyone like to try to meet up? She asks hopefully...please let me know, We have to plan, plan, plan! I'm going to take a nap, suck on a zinc lozenge and then watch The Core. (pppphhhbbbttt!)

I adore spiders!

Isn't she magnificent? She/he is still hanging out in the hollyhock. So cool and pretty and nifty! The mister is sick with a cold and now of course I feel a wee one creeping up the back of my throat. Shoot! Eeegads, go away cold! So I'm drinking tea and orange juice and smoothies and more tea and a bit of coffee and soon some Vernor's ginger-ale which is the best bit of sugary goodness, especially when the nose is working, just don't inhale while taking a sip!

I've got half of the kitchen table cleaned off, the bathtub cleaned and the laundry is hanging on the line. The mister is snoring away (softly) on the sofa behind me and the witch-baby is having a hissy fit at the neighbor's cat which thinks his home is here as well. Just another day in the a-go-go household I need to get back to cleaning and sewing and resting and that glass of Vernor's!

The tooth is fine, it's my sinuses...

Well, if it isn't one thing then it's another. Good thing I can keep a smile on my face most of the time. The problem with all the pain and loopiness is that I am even more scattered than usual, if that is even possible. Pair that with my tendency to talk to myself (and the cat and birds and spiders) and I think people keep a wide berth of me.

This morning I schlepped my angst-filled self to the dentist prepared to hear I have another infection or something and as she was polishing up my temporary filling I hear a "plink" and felt something fly from my mouth! The horror! It didn't hurt but how crazy is that? Turns out the temp filling cracked and caused my bite to get even more wonky than usual which kept the ligament from healing. Oh joy! I would like to take this moment once again to thank my fear Mamos and absent father for their lovely dental DNA. Really, thank you.

After the dentist I peeked into an old favorite thrift that has gotten too big for its britches. I ended up scoring a delightfully ugly polyester pantsuit with floral flared trousers. I am in lurve with it, I am! I hope it fits. If it doesn't then the fabric will become a skirt or something. It doesn't fray so it's easy for a non-sewer like me to play with. After that I snuck off to our local Cuban bakery for meat pies, potato balls, cheese rolls and a fantastic iced latte. The whole time my face was screaming at me to drug itself up as my sinuses were HURTING! The food I picked up is for dinner. I thought how I was supposed to visit with a friend and that if I was feeling better I would grab more cheese rolls and bring them along for the visit. So if yer reading this Roomie quit yelling at the computer screen, I'll supply you with cheese rolls next week. Promise!
When I got home I realized I needed to add another scrumdilly-do project to the blog so set about writing it out. At the same time I needed to prep rice for dinner tonight so I chopped an onion up for browning and then I saw the italian pepper the mister picked from the garden and thought I would try it as he told me they were supposed to be sweet and mild. I sliced it up a bit and put a tiny piece in my mouth and suddenly did the mambo all around the house as it was NOT sweet at all but very, very, HOT . My lips are STILL numb. I didn't want to waste it so I added some chopped bits to the rice. Hope it works out.So, while I'm chopping and cooking and cleaning and manning phone calls to set up doctor appointments and finagle antibiotics out of my regular doc for the sinuses, I am preparing paint and paper for scrumdilly-do ghosts. I'm also sweeping the floor and remembering I need to take a 365 and oh drats, I forgot to water the garden. I put the camera down and step out the kitchen door and immediately spy a yellow crab spider hanging out in a vivid pink hollyhock. Back into the house I go to retrieve the camera but I stop first to add peas to the rice then the phone rings and I chat for a moment with a friend who is trying to find the magical thrift shop. We soothe and pet my poor ragged sinuses and I realized the pain is back to red alert so I down another set of orange pills crossing my fingers I have been drinking enough water to keep my liver and kidneys happy. I skip over to the computer to read some blogs and remember I forgot about the spider. As I pass through the kitchen I notice I can do the next step for the ghostie project so I take care of that then the mail arrives and I am distracted yet again. I finally make it out to the spider but realize I need the tripod so back into the house I go pausing to pet the witch-baby who looks extra sweet all stretched out on her quilt on the bed.Mr. A-go-go has attached the tripod to the desk using a POWERFUL magnet and it takes me a minute to free it from the desk. I manage to get my arse back out to the garden to take pics but by this time the sun has moved and the shadows have set in. I do what I can then decide my 365 needs to be done with the spider and I am certain that if any neighbors are watching they will believe I am certifiable. I get ready to go back inside but remember I need to water the garden and as I'm watering I see more peppers and stop to take pictures of them as well.I'm not sure how I got here type, type, typing away this ramble of a post but I am proud to say I have not gotten up once to attend to anything else. Instead I type about this day and the wee moments of my crazy life and I feel grateful that I am able to have an outlet to remind me that life is good even when it doesn't feel that way. The scrumdilly-do post is done, all the pics from today have been sorted to the computer and I'm thinking I can take a break on the sofa and worship me a bit of candy corn and do some school reading before the mister comes home.

Tomorrow it begins all over again but I do hope I get more cleaning done. We haven't seen the kitchen table in a few months and it is getting too cold to eat outside. Uh-oh, Concrete Blonde just came up on the iPod, it's dancing time! See ya later!

the week in review: Oct 6-12

Last week moved like lightning and molasses all at once. Not enough time to complete everything I wanted to do but just enough time to wallow in self-pity from the pain in my face due to a root canal. It is not infected, I'm just a bit of a wimp and take a long time to recover from such things and painkillers simply don't work on me. Bah!

Today, the mister and I are going to attempt a mini adventure just as soon as I finish this paper for class. It may be a shopping holiday but I still have school to attend. Happy Happy Day! Click here for more specs on the collage.

naturally loopy

I'm no longer loopy via meds though I am still hopped up on mild painkillers. The darn tooth that needed work showed me no signs of needing work. It waited to reveal itself through an x-ray. Traitor! I have TMJ and all sorts of fun problems and that wonky wonky tooth was in the very back of my itty bitty mouth so the endo guy who needled me up with Novocain had to practically climb inside to get the job done. Now of course I am bruised and sore and puffy faced and sore and did I mention that my jaw and tooth and nose all hurt? Sheesh! What a pain. I've been living off of pudding, smoothies and ice cream sandwiches. Poor me. So, even if I'm not on the crazy drugs, I'm still loopy enough that I can't seem to pay attention to getting anything done and there is a whole lot that needs to get done so I am apologizing now as my brain hurts and my tooth is throbbing and I need to take a quick couch nap before I dazzle a soon-to-be birthday girl with a day trip of pastries (that I don't think I can eat) and thrift shopping. I'll clean the bathroom later. Here's some eye-candy for you. There's a contest going on over at scrumdilly-do for kidlets 9m-10y. Check it out!

loopy is as loopy does

and loopy needs to take another nap. i survuced a root cnala thids morning. mindc you, i wasn;t aftraid of the ear shatterring zzzzzz if the tiny drills and saws, no, i was afraid that my secret super power aka lock jaw would make an appearnace as she usually does, damn show off. this time, my kind new entsit graced me with a magic pill bittle that would help keep the jaw locker at bay. for the most part, themagic pills workd. still working a wee bit as evidenced by my mD TYPNG SKILLS. which i iwlkl jeep up for prosperity or until i have ebough energy to fix this post. Anywhoo, the pills had some quiet timein the depths of the belly while my mouth got prodded and poked and doible poked with GINORMOUS needles and gloved fingers and other invasive sacriness. I lay there on the couch thinie with my eyes closed lightly so show that i was not scared. the mister allowed me the use of his ipod shuffle and i had my teeth drilled ot the soothing voices of Cat Stevens, Neko Case, Paul Simon, Sondre Lerche and Jenny Lewis...with some Stephin Merrit thrown in to make it seem more like a party.

october bed: from the top

The directions on the pill bottle are not simply for show, so thank you mr. a-go-go for kindly driving me all about. I got home around 10am and fell into the freshly made up October bed and I awoke moments ago after 2:30 and can feel the lure to revisit. Whyu not?; I can;t eat anything, I cant type very well andmy attention span is that of a young vollege boy who had had one jaigermeister too mAny. the week in review: sept 29-oct 5

It was as weekish as a week could get. Crafting, arting, writing, school work, hiding from the heat and some super-early-in-the-morning cooking and baking. I like breakfast foods no matter the hour.

This week is more of the same what with Felt Club coming up. I've got a lot to do and I guess I should let you know I gotta work fast as Mr. A-go-go and I will be in Portland the week before Felt Club. I'm thinking of having an "open" breakfast when we're out there so I can meet up with internet pals. I would love to meet y'all but only if you want. Stay tuned and let me know if yer interested in a meet up in Portland in November!

Oh this weather!

It has been so super duper hot here. I picked up some macarons, finally, and managed to cart them around with me in relatively cool surroundings until I took them out of the fridge for picture time. They melted within minutes but they were oh sooooo tasty!
